History
1A has been around for several decades.
In 2007, when US 1 was rerouted along
I-295 through Portland, 1A was extended along the
Fore River Parkway (a limited-access but low-speed connector opened in
2005) between its former junction with US 1 at the north end of the
Veterans Bridge; to I-295 near the Congress Street interchange - never
mind the fact that there's no direct connection between 1A south and 295
south there.
Guide
1A is a short connector to downtown
Portland, particularly the Old Port district and the waterfront. Most of
the route is along roads with limited on-street development.
