History

The Falmouth Spur was constructed in 1955 with the extension of the Maine Turnpike from Portland to Augusta. It soon became part of I-95 when its route through Brunswick was opened. It lost that designation in 2004 when I-95 was rerouted to follow the entire Maine Turnpike mainline. The spur was redesignated I-495, but to avoid confusion with the old I-495 (the Maine Turnpike between Portland and Gardiner), it was decided not to place signs on this route.

Guide

As the name implies, the Falmouth Spur is a short spur from the Maine Turnpike to Falmouth. It is maintained by the Maine Turnpike Authority.
