History

Route 105 came into existence in 1965 as a renumbering of the former Route 21. Originally, 105's extent was from Fredericton to Florenceville. In 1967 with the opening of the Florenceville Bridge and a new alignment of the Trans-Canada Highway, 105 was extended northward along the former TCH/Route 2 alignment on the east side of the Saint John River to Perth-Andover, while the TCH took over the former Route 106 along the west side of the river. 105 was again extended north, this time to Grand Falls, in 1984 when Route 125 was redesignated.

In 1981, the Ring Road opened as a four-lane, mostly-divided bypass of Fredericton's Nashwaaksis neighbourhood which also connected to the Westmorland Street Bridge. 105 was rerouted from its former Sunset Drive and Main Street alignment onto the Ring Road.

With the opening of the Fredericton-Moncton four-lane project in 2001, 105 was extended southward (actually eastward) from Fredericton along the former Route 2 to the junction with Route 10 at Youngs Cove.
