History
The bulk of Route 108 is the Plaster Rock-Renous Highway, upgraded and completed in the 1960s.
Route 108 was created in 1965 to connect Grand Falls and Perth-Andover via Plaster Rock. In 1976, Route 108 was rerouted away from Perth-Andover onto the Plaster Rock-Renous Highway, which had been part of Route 109 since 1965. (The former 108 routing along the north bank of the Tobique River became Route 390).
In 1988, Route 108 was extended east from Renous along a former Route 8 alignment to Derby Junction; and in 1997, its routing in the Plaster Rock area was changed onto a bypass route and an upgraded former Route 393 through Sission Ridge. The former Route 108 became the new Route 395.
Route 108 was extended westward in 2003 to meet up with a new freeway section of Route 2.
