History
Route 109 was created in 1965. It originally followed the south bank of the Tobique River from Perth to Plaster Rock, then the Plaster Rock-Renous Highway east to Renous. The Plaster Rock-Renous section became part of Route 108 in 1976. In 1997, 109's routing was changed to cross the Tobique River at Arthurette and follow the north bank to Plaster Rock.
