History

Route 109 was created in 1965. It originally followed the south bank of the Tobique River from Perth to Plaster Rock, then the Plaster Rock-Renous Highway east to Renous. The Plaster Rock-Renous section became part of Route 108 in 1976. In 1997, 109's routing was changed to cross the Tobique River at Arthurette and follow the north bank to Plaster Rock. In 2003, it was extended westward through Andover to meet Route 2.
