History
Highway 103 was first proposed in the late 1960s, and was open from Halifax to Mahone Bay by 1972. The Nine Mile Road between Jordan Falls and Sable River became part of Highway 103 around 1970. This section was extended past Bridgewater to Hebbs Cross by 1976. The Yarmouth-Barrington section was also completed in the late 1970s. Liverpool and Shelburne bypasses opened by the early 1980s, and the Barrington Bypass opened in 2006. The uncontrolled access sections of 103 were officially part of Route 3 until the 1970s.
