History Highway 162 was built upon the opening of the Prince mine in 1975. Guide Highway 162 is the main connector from the Trans-Canada Highway to the former Prince coal mine in Point Aconi. After the mine closed in 2001, traffic on 162 decreased drastically to less than 400 vehicles per day in 2004. A strip mine is now proposed for the area, and the road may once again regain its importance as an industrial spur highway. Junction List
