UPDATES:
Tampa, FL; Columbus, OH; Wichita, KS; Billings, MT: WSH-CHI to AZ-SEA
Little Rock, AR: TB-STL to PHI-TN
Toledo, OH; Fort Smith, AR: WSH-CHI to PHI-TN
Bakersfield and Santa Barbara, CA; Augusta, GA: SF-CAR to WSH-CHI
Savannah, GA: SF-CAR to PHI-TN

Why Seattle hosting Arizona is not being shown in Montana on FOX is mind boggling to me. They are broadcasting Chicago hosting the Redskins and while I can appreciate the national following these teams have – in Montana that following is very limited. The Seahawks and Cardinals are playing for 1st place in the division and half the state is Seahawks fans
is it just me, or does every state, like Wyoming, always have to suffer the beat-down of tuning in, to the games that people could really care less about??
like wouldnt it be fair and logic if every fox station of its state and big-city, conducted an online poll of the listing of matchups to be shown on FOX/CBS, that way whichever the highest percentage that the people ended up voting for, thats the game that’ll end up being shown? rather than this whole secondary and primary market mixup crap
No question Vince,it needs to be simplified,modified.It’s almost archaic & the logic doesn’t jibe with being in the modern world.Anyway,IN THIS INSTANCE WY,MT & anywhere else that does NOT want WSH/CHI shoved down their throat shouldn’t have to endure it.Frankly,no one west of Denver should be getting anything east of the Miss. River if they DON’T HAVE TO.
@ Jeremiah: I feel your pain, but I e-mailed KTMF (FOX Missoula) the other day and from what she told me was their station’s network representative felt that assigning the Redskins/Bears game was based on the premise that it would generate better ratings than other FOX games. Hey, don’t shoot the messenger here, I think the game assignment is stupid, too. You can try e-mailing your station’s GM if you’d like to, but I’m pretty sure you’ll get a similar response to the one I got.
Not bad DJP on guessing where the games would go. You got Texas and SE right and same with most of the rockies. Eastern Montana and New Mex got different games than Skins-Bears.
The New England area gets marquee matchup of the day with the Eagles-Titans than the other game you guessed.
Lots of switches by stations, good to see.
The map still shows Toledo getting Skins/Bears even though they’ve changed to Eagles/Titans.
@Wayne and Jeremiah
If you email the station again, make sure you mention that KHMT Billings switched and is now showing the Cardinals-Hawks game in that part of the state. I know in the past that sometimes does tip the scale in favor of your request.
@ Naqdop: Not sure if that will help but it’s worth a shot.
The stations intially choose their games based on what the NFL and network is suggesting. the local networks can and are free to change games unless they are tied to games under primary and secondary rules.
The rate the local ad buyer pay…is based on the ratings of the game….a higher rating game means more station revenue. their choices arent based on fans but based on money.
The reason Tmapa switch was as I state above because you have a strong Miami fan base in Tampa Bay as well as a strong steeler fan base….plus Tampa Bay plays both the Cardinals and Seahawks later this season so there would be more interst than normal for a 4pm game.
@Paul M. Hedberg
lol sorry to sound such a blonde, but what do you mean by “It’s almost archaic & the logic doesn’t jibe with being in the modern world”??
I’ve noticed that, for some reason, the Bakersfield and Santa Barbera markets will show Raiders and 49ers games then give up on those teams for the rest of the season and air other games. Any explanation?
@ Chris
bakersfield and Santa Barbara are not legally bound to carry the 49ers games.
They changed because the 49ers are plying a winless Panthers team…. YYYYAAAAWWWWNNNNNN …..
The switched to a game they feel will bring more viewers.
Last year a couple of times the Portland, OR TV market did not show the Seahawks game instead of airing a more competative game…they did it a few times last year.
there also could be some local player attachment to the game they changed to which also could have been a factor.
A couple of days ago I said WGMB in Baton Rouge was saying Redskins-Bears… my listings today just updated to Eagles-Titans so the map is correct. At any rate, I’ll be on WAFB instead watching the Saints.
Cheers,
Victor
Aikman = 7-for-7 on calling NFC East games.
Have no idea what I’m saying or what I mean…I just know I’m rite.Basically what I think I’m trying to convey is the NFL continuing to show big market games to out of the way places when they could EASILY not do that incessantly…when the rules have to apply then grt,but when they can tweek & they don’t…either the rules are unintelligible(logic is lacking),Station Mgnt is just int. in a buck just like the league(true)or it’s a conspiracy designed to infuriate,alienate,& frustrate(very true)Did that clear it up?
In general, what’s the latest point in the week when a network will still switch the game? I live in NY and want Wash-Chi, is there any chance of this? I don’t see why we’re getting Phi-Ten instead – both games have a NYG division rival, but Wash-Chi also has a NYG conference rival, and is an all around better game (as evidenced by fox putting Aikman on it). There are no Eagles fans here, so that’s not a valid reason either.
@Jack
Part of the reason you’re getting the Eagles-Titans game, it also has a NYJ conference rival. I guess that makes it the best of both worlds for Giants and Jets fans. Having Aikman on does not make it a better game. You’re right, no Eagles fans where you are but they are closer in proximity than Washington.
@Jack and Naqdop….
remember New Jersey is split in half where the northern part gets NY stations and the Southern part gets philly stations.
On the Jersey side there is a split in the fan base.
also New York and Philly have more of a rivallry in all sports where even NNY fans HATE philly so they feel more will come out and watch that game. Its the same reason why the Giants are shown more in Philly than the skins.
What game is the better game…hard to say…. which is why you have the country pretty equally split between the 2 games. Then the other markets getting local interest games with the Arizona-Seattle game shown as the token FOX game for some and others are watching it because they will be playing those teams this season (NFC South and AFC West markets)
So is the toledo, oh market for sure phi-ten?
I’m a big Titans fan, so I’m very interested in the possible switch. It is listed in the text, but is not on the map so I was curious…
@ Jack
I’m not sure, but I do remember Week #8 last year, Milwaukee was scheduled to air 49ers @ Colts @ 1:00, but @ 11:00 A.M. EST they switched to Giants @ Eagles, which originally was a 4:15 Eastern start, but was moved to 1:00.
According to zap2it.com WUPW FOX 36 in Toledo will air Eagles at Titans
[...] are the TV maps for week 7 of the NFL: FOX CBS at noon CBS at [...]
Atlanta wants to see Vick… get those Eagles games on here!
@ Adam C
You’re right, WUPW’s website is showing the Eagles-Titans. Admin should change this on the map.
Damn,
This would be one of the few weeks that I get an inter-conference game for the Eagles, but thanks to Cablevision I’ll be blacked out!
I want to the the Titan’s game too in ATL. This is lame, I remember always having 4 games when I was a kid. Stupid scam. BTW Vick Fans per Adam Schefter “Eagles deactivated Michael Vick and made him the 3rd QB today.”
I swear i hate this crap. Ive got comcast who has cable tv in most markets, yet i can not pay for another markets local tv stations. It really cant be that hard and is a way around the Direct TV deal. Im so sick of watching the fail ass bears here in NW Indiana.
im in atl, why is there a small area around atlanta that is not showing eagles at tenn.
It sure sucks that here in Texas that we are forced to watch New Orleans when the Texans have a bye week. There are not as many Who Dat fans in Houston as one would think. I am sick of watching the Saints who aren’t having a good season. There are more Steeler fans in Houston than you think and we want to watch good football not forced to watch Who Dat!
Why does FOX advertise the Arizona/Seattle game by way of commercial all week, then when I check the TV schedule in Austin, TX the day of the game, it says that POKER is being televised? It is SUNDAY! Football day! The game is advertised. Televising a card game makes zero sense to me??????
Why are so many markets getting ARZ-SEA that would obviously be more interested in the early games? Is there a rule that I’m missing here? (I live in Columbus Ohio)
Why cant they just televise the early game and the late game? It is NFL Football! The biggest ratings grabber in the country. How can it make more sense to televise poker over NFL Football??
So what? I can’t watch the eagles play cuz I live in Florida????? That’s fucking bullshit!!
Today is CBS’s turn to have the doubleheader. Fox only gets one game. Fox gets the doubleheader next week leading into Game 4 of the World Series.
Most of Fox’s games today are in the 1 p.m. window. The Arizona-Seattle game is offered at 4:05 partly because Seattle isn’t allowed to host a game at 10 a.m. local time and partly because some affiliates won’t be able to air an early game due to NFL rules. Hence, the “token” late game. Except for Week 17, there’s a three-game maximum each Sunday afternoon.
Then why advertise the game all week? I have seen promotion for the morning and afternoon game in the same commercial since last Sunday. So for Sunday to come around and to not have what is expected is annoying.
I am from AZ, and now live in Texas. I got very excited at the possibility of actually watching my Cards play! Especially since I am bed ridden due to surgery, and do not have the opportunity to even go to a bar that has the NFL Network.
I also think the 3 game max rule works against the NFL. Allow both networks a morning and afternoon game! If a game is being played then televise it! Trust me, no one wants a Poker game over NFL! Give people variety!
As it stands now, I am going to find the game being broadcasted against the NFL’s wishes online, and I will ignore the New England/SD game.
I can’t believe in Tampa I have the choice of only the Seahawks/Cardinals game. CBS was showing the BAL/CLE game as it went into overtime. Then, they said we will switching to NE/SD game and then the NFL was gone, just like that…the WTSP website says:
“The NFL is only allowing two televised games in the Tampa Bay market on Sunday, and one must air at 1 p.m. and the other at 4 p.m. FOX will air their game at 4 p.m. so CBS’s time slot was moved back to 1.
The programming change is an NFL decision, and not WTSP’s.”
Now, is this true, and can the station fight against the change?
@st0n3r and Michael
Atlanta game because they are home and the game is on CBS that game is EXCLUSIVE meaning you cant have naother game on.
@all
The network that does not have the football doubleheader has filler programing for the estimated hour or so.
In the east this airs after the football game from 5-6pm and can be easily edited to fit that weeks games.
For late games as the solo game it airs prior to the football game.
These are taped events like poker, skiing, some sort of racing, gymnastics, ice skating, or some other sporting event that doesnt get much sportscenter coverage so you dont know the results.
Usually the advertized promoted game in the clips is the game your market will see…
Columbus opted to air the late game because Cincinati and cleveland were also airing late games and they figured more fans would be watching the game they would have on so they opted for the late game.
@Matt…
The only time the NFL has dual doubleheader is in week 17. If they expand the schedule to 18 games and 2 weeks. then they will likely have dual doubleheaders on opening week and ending week.
The game schedules are also designed around the doubleheader weekends.
that is why you DO NOT have say a New england @ san Diego game as a token late game.
No double header in Tampa on CBS…punishment for not selling out the Bucs game I guess.
Its all silly. If the networks have NFL rights, and games are being played, then they should televise them. Why leave a time slot blank? Especially in this economy, where fans are less able to buy the NFL Network.
Dual doubleheaders every week! Build and give fans a product. There are 4 games being played right now. There is no reason to not give fans a 50/50 shot at seeing a game they care about. Especially in markets away from any of the games.
What I don’t understand is the following. In an area where there is sufficient interest in a game, it will be broadcast over the air, for free, supported by commercials. If there’s not sufficient interest, it’s not worth the cost to the network to broadcast it, so they don’t. Fine. If there was a way that the cost of such a broadcast could be eliminated entirely, shouldn’t the network be jumping at that? Well there is – every week people stream games over the internet to eachother, commercials included, using their own bandwidth. There is no cost to the network, yet they fight to shut down such streams. Why?
@Jack
Because those that shut down streams broadcasted over the internet, think that its illegal. They’re stupid. thats why
@ shawn
CBS in Tampa was originally scheduled to air Patriots @ Chargers late because, of course, the Bucs were at home in the early slot on FOX. However, since the Bucs failed to sell out, the late CBS game was blacked out in Tampa in favor of Steelers/Dolphins.
@ shawn
I forgot to mention Tampa switched to the 4:05 Arizona/Seattle game on FOX. Each market is required to show an early game and a late game.
