Sports Illustrated has listed that Redskins@Lions is blacked out in Detroit area.
@ LarryG…you see it is grey in the detroit TV market…that has been that way all week.
WARNING:
ct. 29 (Bloomberg) — Dish Network Corp. customers in some cities may face their own Fox blackout next week, as the satellite company feuds with Fox parent News Corp. over programming fees ahead of a Halloween contract deadline.
Dish’s existing contract to carry more than 25 local Fox TV stations expires at midnight on Oct. 31. If an agreement can’t be reached, the channels would go dark for more than 3 million customers in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and other cities. That would affect Fox shows such as “House” and potentially the last three games of the World Series.
Fox already cut off programming to Cablevision Systems Corp. in a similar dispute, affecting about 3 million customers in the New York area. News Corp. said it considers the Fox network just as valuable as the most expensive cable programming because of sports shows and hits like “American Idol.”
“It’s going to get really nasty,” Matthew Harrigan, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities in Denver, said in an interview. “Dish is more exposed to programming costs than any other pay-TV provider because they face a lot of competition. Fox is absolutely determined to force this through.”
Dish and Fox said they have not yet reached an agreement. Francie Bauer, a Dish spokeswoman, said yesterday in an interview the company is hopeful it can reach a “fair” agreement. Scott Grogin, a Fox spokesman, said in an e-mail yesterday that the company wants a “successful resolution.”
Who the hell puts these maps together? Why would most of the country have to watch the Vikings? Why not have the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders broadcast to most of the West Coast. Boise, Idaho is in the Pacific North West and it even looks like Oakland won’t get the game? FOX Promotes regional games and then pulls a blunder like this! The local stations have very little say in programming which is stupid! This Map sucks!
@JWMAC
The admin puts these maps together using a search of tv station programing.
this is not a site sanctioned by the NFL.
The people who decide what games are where…first the national network suggest to stations which games they should get but stations are free to choose which game they want.
the only restrictions are rules in the primary and secondary markets that must be followed.
If the home team is on the road the primary and secondary markets must air those games. If the hometeam game doesnt sell out in time the primary and secondary markets cant air that game. All market other than the primary markets get 3 games per week. the primary market can be restricted to 2 games.
Boise is free to choose which game it airs…and the choise is based on regional interst in games as well as what games will bring them the most viewers. the local ad slots they have in games generates station revenue and these rates are based on ratings. so higher ratings mean higher revenue.
I am surprised that Boise isnt taking Seattle @ Oakland because those are two of the 4 closest teams to Boise (San Fran and Denver are the others). Boise is thinking more viewers will come out to watch the Minnesota @ New England game.
If enough viwers yell and scream then the station will switch tv games. that happened last week in tampa. some other station do a poll for fans to choose. I thinkj it was shreveport on whether to air the Cowboys-Texans or Falcons-Saints. The Saints won the poll.
I live in the Springfield market and altough this site says the packers game will be on my tv service says it will be the Rams game.
Why is the GB/NYJ game blacked out in the Detroit area? I understand why the Lion game is blacked out as they did not sell out but why not show the game that is being shown to 90% of the rest of the country?
@ Paul
FOX had the doubleheader. Washington @ Detroit was blacked out. Therefore, the early FOX game in Detroit was blacked out, and ended up showing Vikings @ Pats.
