2010 week 11
I’m excited for the rematch from last season. Hope this game stays intense!
Why couldn’t the Saints and Rams games be on a 1:00 rather than 4:05? Obviously the 49ers game must be a late game because it is on the West Coast, but New Orleans and St. Louis are in Central Time Zone and so their game can be noon CT games. I would think EVERYONE would want to see a match between the Colts and Patriots…except the Bay Area, of course!
Nope, most here in the Bay Area want to see this game too.
Unless San Francisco is absolutely assured of a sell out….it cant be the only late FOX game because of TV rules. Son either Atlanta @ St Louis or Seattle @ Saints could have been shifted tot he early slot.
BY rule San Francisco, St Louis, and New Orleans would only be able to see the Colts-Pats game if their team did NOT sell out their home game.
If they sell out and blackout lifted—then by rule–exclusivity kicks in—so only home team game could air.
Wish I could do a poll…
Under ideal circumstances to minimize the number of people missing the Colts @ Pats…
which FOX game should be the token game:
Detroit @ Dallas
This is why I vow to never live in a “home” market for any team; I don’t want to miss the annual Pats-Colts games, or any Colts games that could be not shown due to ignorant “exclusivity” rules. I will miss the Cowboys-Colts game in a few weeks because of the stupid Panthers (I’m in the Greensboro market). I feel bad for those in SF, StL, and even Super Bowl-stealing NO.
I always hear how the country gets inundated with either a Cowboys, Giants, or Patriot game but I have to disagree. Sure many times the Pats are on Sunday or Monday night but that’s usually because it’s a marquee match-up but you rarely see them on Sunday afternoon in a national tv game playing the likes of the Bills or the Browns. However, I don’t know how many more times I can stand seeing the Cowboys or Giants playing the Panthers or Rams on national tv!
The situation with the Bay area is pretty much the same except this time its the 49ers and not the Raiders. Usually, the 49ers are on the road on a FOX DH, and the Raiders are home on a CBS SH, forcing the NFL to schedule an additional 4:05 CBS SH game to avoid the Bay area from having any game at all. If the 49ers don’t sell out, they still can’t show the Pats/Colts because the Raiders are at Pittsburgh early and both CBS and FOX get one guaranteed game in each market. If the 49ers don’t sell out FOX has to show one of the other 4:05 games.
I don’t understand the point of doing a national game at 4:15 and blacking it out in place. If Rams fans would rather watch a better game….why should the NFL punish them??
Wow, screw the 49ers. Pats/Colts is ALWAYS a great game, we all know Tampa’s gonna roll them anyway.
This should be a fun game to watch, given how intense this rivalry is.
I can explain why the Colts and Patriots play each other every year. When the NFL reailigned divisons in 2002 the Colts and Patriots were placed in different divisons. The way the current NFL schedule works is 1)a team plays 6 divison games, 2)4 games vs the opposite conference, 3)4 games vs another whole division within the conference, 4) this leaves 2 thow-in games which are detirmined against 1 team form the 2 other divisons in the conference that had the same divisonal standing from the previous season. Example: 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd, 4th vs 4th.
For most of this decade the Colts and Patriots have amolst always finished in 1st or 2nd place in their respective divisons. In fact both have always placed in 1st or 2nd. If they don’t have the same place the ONLY way they play each other is if the AFC South and AFC East play each other the following season. This streak could be broken next season because in 2011 AFC South plays against AFC North and AFC East plays against AFC West. If the Colts in 1st place in the AFC South, and if the Patriots finish in 2nd place behind the Jets, then the Colts and Patriots WILL NOT play each other next season, but instead the Colts and Jets would play each other.
I hope my explaination was helpful.
The reason that streak has been around:
2002: both finish 1st in 2001
2003: AFC East played AFC South
2004: both finished 1st in prior season
2005: both finished 1st in prior season
2006: AFC East played AFC South (both finished 1st prior season)
2007: both finished 1st in prior season
2008: both finished 1st in prior season
2009: AFC East played AFC South (both finished 2nd prior season)
2010: both finished 1st in prior season
This streak amount to some luck of finishing in the same place in the standings.
Talking about scheduling annomalies occured in 2008 that CANT occur ever again.
The Pats and Jets had to take 4 west coast trips by playing at seattle, san francisco, oakland, and san diego. The Pats got an unfair advantage in that they got their west coast games in two consecutive weeks so they stayed there between games while the Jets had their west coast games broken up by home games.
That will never happen afain because the NFL changed the team packets for games
It used to be oaklandand san diego was the same location and KC Denver was the same location and if facing the NFC West it was seattle and san francisco was the same and arizona and st louis was the same.
Now its seattle/St louis , arizona/san francisco in the groupings and kc/san diego and denver/oakland in the pairings of game locations.
so does this mean that there is ABSOLUTELY no way that the colts-patriots game will air in the Bay Area?
The problem is with san fran playing at home and oakland on the road you can only get 2 games.
Since Oakland is at 1pm on CBS that means you have to switch to a 4pm game on FOX…if 49ers sell out its that game…if not then the game will flip to one of the other late fox games.
This is why Oakland/san francisco and new york city cant have the solo token 4pm game filler for a week. If the home game is not a sell out they cant televise a game in that slot. In other markets you can easily flip games between networks but in these areas you dont have such flexibity because the other city team is on at that time so you are stuck
I should point out, to make my comment from the other day clear, is that when I said, “except the Bay Area, of course!”, I meant the 49ers game can’t be an early game because of the Raiders and the fact that the game is on the West Coast. Because of this, there would be no way of the Colts-Pats game airing in San Fran. The Rams and Saints games, on the other hand, could’ve aired at 1:00 ET.
Yet another reason for this Raiders fan to hate the 49ers. What I wouldn’t give to see IND/NE instead of SF/TB.
Should be a great game but the risk of having no back up game is there. Just look what happened this past Monday. Fox could get more viewers than they expected if this game is a blowout.
I think the possibility of no back-up gm disaster is very real. These 2 r do for a blow-out.Not much coulda been done…CLV/JAX as an alt.but who would really get real w/that.Chance for a grt Sun.though:1A or 1B early & then the showdown late.
Obviously, with San Fran being on the west coast, they can’t see the bonus portion of Pats-Colts, but my question to you is, will CBS put New Orleans and St. Louis on the same feed as the rest of the country starting at 7ET/6CT or will they get put on a separate feed and start 60 minutes at the normal time depriving those markets of the run-over?
NO NO NO
you will not see bonus coverage of the Colts-Pats game. St Louis and New Orleans CBS stations will start their regular scheduled broadcasts at 6pm CT.
Ok, rookie question, but can someone tell me the exact reason why St. Louis can’t get the Colts and New England?
Dave: Nothing can compete with a Rams home game.
Under NFL TV rules since the Rams are home and they sold out so the blackout is lifted the game is shown exclusivly with no other game competition. Since the game is a late at 4pm you cant get a CBS game at 4pm.
And this entire conversation proves why NFL broadcast rules suck balls.
I live in the bay area, and I frigging HATE both home teams. So most weeks, I just turn the TV off and watch games illegally over the internet.
The NFL broadcast rules are out of date and idiotic. Are we supposed to blindly follow whatever team happens to be playing closest to where we live? I’d rather just stop watching football all together. VIVA HOCKEY!!
As a Raiders fan, I have absolutely no interest in the 49ers. I would MUCH rather watch what I can only imagine will be one of the best games of the year in the Indy NE game. CBS saying, “next on our double header, Pats Colts,” is just cruel considering I can’t actually watch that game. Is there any way for me to watch Patriots Colts instead of this sucky SF game?
Screw the Niners and their fans. Why would you want to go to commercial stick park to watch a horrible team when you could stay home and watch the pats and the colts. F the niners
