Since the Dolphins aren’t playing, Miami and West Palm Beach should be showing the Bucs game. It’s an in-state team, and I can’t understand what West Palm Beach has against the Bucs as that market never seems to show that team. Jacksonville should be doing the same since the Jags are playing on CBS early and the Bucs are late on FOX. So should Tallahassee as that city is the capital of Florida. Any explanation?
I’m wondering how the Redskins game ended up in the Carolinas? South Carolina should be showing the Falcons game, as it is probably the second most popular team there (behind obviously the Panthers). Obviously Charlotte has to air a late game since the Panthers are on an early CBS game, but what kind of connection is there, if any?
I think it’s a load of b/s, every year they cut coverage of games back, now in the carolinas to one 4 o’clock game; last year there were 2 or 3. They’re trying to force fans into buying the sunday ticket when things like poker, nascar, and golf are shown on espn (no disrespect but they’re more of skills than sports, seeing sports require good physical condition) when they consistently never gross higher weekly ratings than the 2 or 3 nationally televised nfl games.
I agree with you Chris, in south carolina you would assume to have an NFC south game like atlanta or new orleans…. instead no four o’clock fox game, time warner digital cable only gets your indianapolis here apparently
@Chris
Remember this is the Colts @ Pats game at 4pm. Pats are a divisional rival so the FOX station acknowledges they will not maximize their potential viewers by airing the Bucs game against the Colts-Pats game so they have to air an early game.
The Colt @ Pats is a game circled when the schedule comes out. It draws many fans to watch that game that otherwise wouldnt watch a football game if it wasnt with their local team.
Of the early FOX games you have a good number of people with Midwest connections who live in the Miami/West Palm region where they have been long time NFC North fans or lived there and retired down south so they want to see the division rivalry game.
On the latter comment:
North carolina especially has had longtime Redskins fans before the Panthers came to being. South Carolina is split between Atlanta and Washington in terms of long time fan base.
The Redskins will draw viewers to the game that otherwise wouldnt watch. Raleigh area in particular have a big size washington sports team fan base. See a Capitals @ Hurricanes NHL game in Raleigh where you will have around 40% of the fans at the game are for the Capitals.
Raleigh would prefer not to be a secondary market to the Panthers given their distance (175 miles) is a 3 hr drive. The NFL approved such designation because they figured like college football the pro game would draw fans from 3-4 hrs away to see games.
Also Raleigh has numerous other transplants from the northeast and midwest who are fans of those teams.
The other problem with the Falcons game is that its a late game running directly against the Colts-Pats game (see above again as to why).
@Greg
The scheduling of 4pm games.
The schedule sets the 4pm games from weeks 1-10.
For weeks 11-17 the only 4pm games that are listed are games that need to be at 4pm which are games located out west or a later new york teams game (they cant play in the same slot…outside of special circumstances).
Some of the networks like FOX picked a few featured games before the season and made then 4:15pm like Dallas @ indy in two weeks.
Networks generally dont decide what games to shift until 13 days before (6 days before week 17). On Monday FOX shifted Tampa Bay @ Baltimore and Philadelphia @ Chicago to 4:15 start times.
After this weeks games you may see Atlanta @Tampa Bay shift to 4:15pm for FOX in week 13.
Look for week 14 and 16 for NBC to flex games.
Last season Carolina had a couple of later season national games because they came off of an 11-5 season in 2008. Last season they had 3 national games and 3 4pm games..one was out west @ Arizona and the other two were token 4 pm games one at Saints and one hosting Buffalo. They only had one game that was on a doubleheader game.
This season they get one national game on NFLN at pittsburgh and a late game (by playing out west).
If the Panthers were forecast to be a good team this season they would have been featured more on national TV and in the doubleheader 4:15 pm games.
Why in Philly are we seeing the Green Bay-Minnesota game over the Redskins?
I am a New York Jets fan visiting BUF for Thanksgiving. At home, the NFLN game is over the air. In BUF…..Time Warner freezes me out. Have to find a good sports bar…(The Aud?) to see the best team in the AFC. BOOOOOO
@Dave Goldhirsch
Depends on where you are staying…first off the Aud as been torn down but you would find the game on in ANY BAR or restaurnat with a bar.
@footballfan
I do think philly should be getting a NFC east team game. Like the Skins game.
They could be counter programing thinking most of the viewers in their market would be watching the Steelers game so they air the game that may draw the most viewers.
FOX 61 in Chattanooga is showing the Falcons game instead of the Titans game even though they’ve been advertising the Titans all week long. It was announced on their Facebook page yesterday. IT says that it was the NFL’s decision. I wish I understood the rules that had the ATLANTA (GA) Falcons as a priority over the TENNESSEE Titans in Chattanooga, TENNESSEE. Don’t get it.
[...] maps for 11 time this season: FOX CBS at noon CBS at [...]
@DJP
Fox will not be shifting Dallas @ Indy no matter what happens the next two weeks. This will be a huge ratings draw regardless.
IT SHOW THE BUCS GAME GOING TO BE PLAYED @ 4PM @ FT.MYERS.. BUT WHEN I LOOK @ LISTING IT SAYS POKER STAR .NET !!! WTF !!!
To Nathan about FOX 61: WDSI in Chattanooga serves the NORTH GEORGIA area as well as Chattanooga. FOX has aired the Falcons games all year and the Falcons are tied for the most wins in the NFL. Your Titans are a mediocre team playing another mediocre team in the Deadskins. That’s why the Falcons game is a priority because 1) This station serves a good portion of North Georgia, 2) They normally show the Falcons while CBS shows the Titans, 3) Better record of the closest team. 4) Who in their right mind would want to watch Tennessee face Washington?. End of story.
Why do Troy Aikman and Joe Buck always do the Packers games? I have two issues with this… 1) They are boring commentators, and
2) Troy Aikman is one of the most hated former players to play against the Packers. I can’t think of one fan who ever cheered for the Packers who remembers Troy Aikman in a positive light.
Try being a Minnesota fan and having to watch the friggin Chiefs game….SNORE!!!
Why the hell did WTTE (Columbus, Ohio) switch to TB-SF? I knew it was too good to be true when I checked earlier this week and it said they would have GB-MIN. They never show an early game when there is no doubleheader.
Tallahasse wants to see the bucs!
Cory: I guess the Troy Smith factor was just too strong.
@Nathan/Falcons Fan
Chattanooga is not a secondary market to Atlanta…it is closer to Nashville than Atlanta. Most of Chatt population is in Tennessee.
@Jaxcomet
Cowboys will not draw since they are playing like crap. Sure FOX will keep the game at 4:15 because its the colts but I do seee they put a second game there as back up in order to retain viewers when they game is 28-3 Colts at halftime.
@Cory
Troy Smith was the reason with him starting games which he hasnt until this point in his career.
To Falcon Fan. Your name reflects your team affiliation. No need to paint your face and wave your foam finger on this feed. The problem I see is with the map breakout and the lack of conflict in the first place. And maybe the problem is the NFL programming. Why can’t the Titans be shown at 1pm and the Falcons at 4pm. If they have to cut over to the Falcons game at 4 or cut in after the Titans game ends, so be it. At least both fans affected in the Chattanooga area get to watch the game for their team. And as to the North Georgia residents served from the Chattanooga affiliate, I sympathize, but it is served from Chattanooga and does serve a large portion of the Southeast corner of Tennessee. But really I don’t understand why the NFL or Fox would not allow the to show both games. All the local is doing today is showing an old movie to fill time.
Since many people with digital cable, satellite have interactive guides; why don’t the service providers and the network develop a system where, when the home market team is not playing, individual users can select which game will be broadcast to their receiver?
Why does fox say they’re going to air the Titans- Redskins game, show not even two full series of the game, and then switch to the Vikings-Packers game? Can someone explain this to me, I mean why? If you say your gonna show a game in my area please at least show the game that was planned.
David: It all has to do with the doubleheader rules.
CBS has the DH this week, so Fox can only air one game in a given market. They had to choose and the Falcons won out.
If this situation was last or next week (Fox DH), both games would have aired in Chattanooga.
Fox sending their #2 broadcast team to matchup of 2-7 teams is ridiculous. Continuing to kiss Dallas’ ass regardless of matchup and record..
I’m sitting here suffering through a horrible Jets vs. Texans game even though Chattanooga is 800 miles away plus from both cities and I can’t watch the Titans play. Why? Because obviously since I live in Tennessee and the Falcons have a better record I get to watch the Fantastic 4 on Fox instead of the game, because I have to watch the Falcons try to compete with the Manning vs. Brady game this afternoon. So no Titans for me, but I do get to watch the Falcons during Colts commercial breaks, that’s cool.
But Cole, Fox and Channel 61 is the Falcon station. I understand when the Titans are on Channel 12, even though I don’t care to watch them play. It’s CBS’s home team. You also have to understand that a lot of us had been following the Falcons for thirty years before Bud Adams moved the Oilers to Nashville so we’ve got the edge in seniority. Old age and loyalty should count for something.
It would be nice if everyone could watch the game of his choice. Maybe someday in the future.
A lot of Chattanooga area fans that live in Tennessee have been Falcons fans for years before the other team moved to Nashville. It’s not just North Georgia fans. Why should these fans be deprived of their long time team, just because Bud Adams moved a team to Nashville? And Chattanooga is closer to Atlanta than in is to Nashville. This isn’t college football where all that state line stuff makes a big deal.
The Falcons historically have been Chattanooga Tennessee’s NFL team.
@Cole “I’m sitting here suffering through a horrible Jets vs. Texans game”
I guess you turned it off too early…..
@DJP “Cowboys will not draw since they are playing like crap.”
They are?….Not lately….
@Jaxcomet…
I am not going to go out of my way to watch the Cowboys because they suck…they aint going to the playoffs…hate to break that to you. People arent going to watch the Cowboys play the Colts.
