NFL 2010 Week 12: FOX Early Game
…
Green Bay @ Atlanta – Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick [AK, HI]
Minnesota @ Washington – Dick Stockton, Charles Davis, Jim Mora Jr.
Carolina @ Cleveland – Chris Rose, Torry Holt
Areas in GREY will not receive a game due to the local team playing at home on CBS at the same time.
…
UPDATES:
Oklahoma City, Wichita: GB-ATL to MIN-WSH
Biloxi MS, Bristol TN, Beckley WV: MIN-WSH to GB-ATL
Charleston and Wheeling WV: MIN-WSH to CAR-CLE
Erie PA: GB-ATL to CAR-CLE

I think this must be the first week the Viking game has not gone to the majority of the country.
i love the fact the all of the Southeast will get to see the GB-ATL Game on Fox
Note that Biloxi, MS is going with Vikings/Redskins. Do they think they’re showing their local hero (Favre) for the last time?
The guide for my cable provider in Denver says I’m getting Vikings-Skins. I hope that’s not the case and that your map is right, and that the guide just hasn’t been updated yet.
Also, I think it’s hilarious that the only area outside of the Vikings or Redskins market that is getting that game is Hattiesburg, MS, home of none other than Brett Favre.
As a Chicago guy, I was worried we’d be subjected to yet another episode in the weekly Favre drama. Glad someone in FOX made the right decision to give us the GB-ATL game instead.
Surprised not as many places in the North Central United States are going with the Vikings game. I would think most of Iowa, Nebraska, and some of Montana would’ve gone with that game.
Also, the Tri-Cities: I’m supposing it chose Minnesota-Washington because part of the market is in Virginia and in Redskins territory. Not sure why that market hasn’t shown the Skins more.
Boy was I completely wrong when I handicapped Fox 29 (Phila) before the year began. I had them pegged to carry as many Redskins/McNabb games as they had the opportunity to. And this week I was completely convinced they’d carry the Skins game b/c of A.) Divisional opponent factor and B.) Hey, it’s Favre so why not? and C.) McNabb bashing/worshipping throngs of Eagle fans. But now I see I was wrong again.
I don’t get their decision-making process at Fox 29 at all. I’m sure Green Bay vs. Atlanta is going to be a much better game and it is much more important in the national scope, but since when does that matter to a Philadelphia sports fan?? (Program director must be an outa-towner.) You wanna talk about xenophobic sports town: If your helmet doesn’t have wings or your cap isn’t red and doesn’t have a ‘P’ on it, it doesn’t necessarily exist. And if it does exist, who cares?
Gotta be more Philly people wanting to watch McNabb succeed or fail than to watch any other game. Gotta be, right?!?
In response to Malcom…. No, not all of the souteast gets to see the GB-Atl game. Here in Greenville, SC (and the rest of the Carolinas), we’re stuck with the Panthers-Browns game. Guess I’ll have to find something else to do during those 3 hours. Couldn’t care less about Jax-NYGiants on CBS at the same time, either.
I would cry if I had to watch Carolina/Cleveland over Green Bay/Atlanta.

They finally decided to drop the bomb on Brett Farve. I do feel bad for him though.
Looking to weeks ahead: Week 13
FOX has the DH, so I hope the early game we get in So Cal is 49ers @ Packers and NOT NFC East game. I would have also taken Falcons @ Bucs in the early spot, but I looked at the schedule and that game was moved to 4:15 PM, so I think Tampa will sell-out the game. I think people have had it up to here with the Cowboys, but that’s too bad because ATL/TB game is now at the same time as my Raiders.
Week 14
Because Farve is FINISHED, I think we have a chance to see the Rams @ Saints game in LA scheduled for 4:05 PM as a FOX single game, they could send Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to that contest in New Orleans. NBC will probably not switch out of the Cowboys game, this is the only time NBC does a game at Cowboys Stadium this season, and as a result Oklahoma will get Rams @ Saints in Week 14.
Week 16
I hope the early FOX game is 49ers @ Rams here in LA, Cowboys play on Christmas Saturday so Oklahoma will get that game. Maybe a long shot, but who knows. NBC could flex Colts @ Raiders and move it away from being a token game, Raiders do not have a game in primetime yet and NBC loves showing the Manning Brothers. This could encourage the game to be sold-out and Bay Area is free to air NY Giants @ Packers with no blackout restrictions.
A good friend of my father’s lives in Asheville, North Carolina. Thank goodness I don’t have to suffer through every Panthers loss like he does!
I could see philly fliping to the skins game before the week is done.
In Carolinas…those markets not tied to Carolina under secondary status will likely flip to the Atlanta game (Charleston is one)
Week 13 FOX maps should be real interesting to watch with FOUR games in each slot. I also noticed that the #1 team isn’t working this Sunday, is that because they’re doing the Thanksgiving game?
@Aaaron
week 12:
Tampa Bay @ baltimore game was moved in part because the skins and ravens were playing at the same time and both on FOX. Since the better game is the Baltimore game they opted to ship that. Had the Vikings been around .500 or better they would have moved the Vikins-Skins game to the latter slot.
week 13:
Tampa Bay @ atlanta was put later because the later games involve some dud games while this game easily will be a division leader factor game.
week 12 and week 13 FOX has the doubleheader and its a ratings month so they want to ensure they have fans who watch the game to boost their ratings…in order to do that they need some competative games.
By them moving these two they are safe if one is a blow out they will flip markets to the closr game.
WEEK 14:
NBC will flex the philly @ dallas game for another game. Either Oakland @ Jacksonville, KC @ san Diego, New England @ chicago, or Tampa Bay @ Washignton.
Why would they flex this game …because Dallas sucks…and with the divisional games the end of the season in week 17 there are some unwritten rules with divisional games where the home network gets one of the two games. So the divisional battles that happened on NBC, NFLN, or ESPN earlier this season will likely not be flexed to NBC unless there is no other choice. San Diego-Denver, Miami @ new england, and tennesse-indy games likely will not be flexed on NBC if there is a choice for NBC because these three divisional games were on national network. If the network thinks Dallas @ Philly means something and could be a meaningfull game in the last week they may trade the earlier game in. Dallas stadium isnt new this year so there is no significant reason for NBC to go to Dallas.
week 16:
Indy @ Oakland could be a flex game as could….Jets @ chicago…or Giants @Green Bay. Tennessee @ KC also could be a candidate. The Giants @ Packers game is likely protected by FOX. CBS can only protect one game.
@bayoucat
#1 on both networks are working thanksgiving so neither is working on Sunday.
as for the week 13 maps…they will be pretty regionalized…not all that chaotic like paint splayyer.
A very good distribution of games. Obviously a local connection in Biloxi, MS. The only change I see here would be ND and SD switch to the excellent national game.
As a Ravens ticketholder, I was annoyed that our game against the Bucs was changed from 1pm to 4:15 pm. Now it is not even being broadcasted except in the immediate areas! Really annoyed now.
@Naqdop, nope, ND and SD is Vikings territory. We get all their games even when they are struggling. The only time a local affiliate didn’t show a Vikings game was when it was up against one of the mid-90’s 49ers/Cowboys games of the year. The other games in this time aren’t that big, so it will not get switched.
Plus, with the coaching change, everyone will want to see how they play.
I’m guessing the reason Oklahoma City is taking Minnesota-Washington is because of Adrian Peterson? But what about Wichita? Who on either team has a connection?
OK, with Buck/Aikman gone
How is the GB/ATL game being called by the #3 crew(for this week)?
Why is MIN/WAS being called by the #2 crew?
Why is TB/BAL being called by #4?
I’d have:
Kenny, Moose,Goose: PHI-CHI
Stockton, Davis, Mora: GB-ATL
Brennaman, Billick: TB-BAL
Rosen, Ryan: MIN-WAS
Pitts, Lynch: STL-DEN
Rose, Holt: CAR-CLE
@Geraldo
#1 is doing thxgvg game
#2 is doing the late FOX game that leads into their prime time audience.
@Chris
Witchita has Oklahoma fans….there is also a player out of Washington…a rookie WR from Kansas State.
I live in Philly and really want to see the Browns game. My second choice would be the Redskins. I don’t want to see the GB/ATL game….
@footballfan
if you want cleveland…get sunday ticket or find a bar.
The Redskins should play in Philly because they are in the same division.
I understand why they are going with Green Bay Atlanta which is a 7-3 vs 8-2 team.
Sorry but when you get to this time of the year the games chosen tend to go toward the matchups where you have two first place teams playing…no matter where they are from.
I wonder if Lafayette, LA would go with CAR/CLE now that Delhomme is starting again.
@ DJP
I know, but any reason FOX has Brennaman calling th GB game instead of Stockton?
@Gerardo
I have no idea of why they choose the announcers.
Maybe they shift units around because of either more familiarity with teams playing or to give the crew a variety of games.
Maybe Billick push it because he want a high profile game…or FOX didnt want him doing a minnesota game because he may be trying to get an interview for anew coaching gig (If I recall he was off coord in Minnesota before he went to baltimore)
So Brandon Banks is the Kansas State player with the Redskins? I think I remember him returning a kick for a touchdown against the Lions a few weeks ago. I remember sources considering it remarkable considering he is short in height.
@ DJP
I maybe would have him do the Baltimore game, for some reason
Great to see that Bristol Tn is now going to show the Green bay-Atlanta game!! I’m sure that this will be more enjoyable than the Minn.-Washington game. Fox 39 Tri-cities is the local station here. Go falcons!!
WHY THE HELL DID THE WICHITA FOX AFFILIATE WANT TO TELEVISE MINNESOTA AT WASHINGTON? PITIFUL. SIMPLY PITIFUL.
I’M PISSED AS HELL WE GET SHAFTED OUT OF A GREAT MATCHUP IN FAVOR OF A PITIFUL TEAM AGAINST A MEDIOCRE ONE. FOX KANSAS SUCKS SERIOUS DONKEY DICKS.
@David
Probably some local interest in the game.
Brandon Banks the rookie WR/returner of Washington came out of K-St. There are quite a few Okla/Okla St player playing in this game and some of them may have come out of Kansas.
Why in the WORLD would Charleston, WV NOT get the Green Bay/Atlanta game??? Stupid.
So, is it definitely GB VS ATL in Erie, PA? The FOX affiliate lists this week as TBD and every other site seems to be saying Browns are on except my guide list. I get the Browns Panthers game isn’t exciting but Erie is a Steelers, Bills and Browns town. I don’t want to wait till 1pm to find out if the Browns game is on, then have to run to the bar.
Actually, no…it looks like there was a late switch to the Browns game. The map’s been changed.
So, I’m still concerned about the Browns game. I can’t find exact confirmation from the FOX affiliate in Erie, PA that they switched to the Browns game and my Time Warner Guide still says GB-ATL. While tvguide.com says the Browns are on, I’m still skeptical. Was the change so recent they haven’t updated the guide yet?
I live in Wichita, KS. Why on earth does the NFL force us to watch the terrible Minnesota-Wash. matchup when most of the country can watch a great GB-ATL game?
Yep, once again Packers fans in Wichita get the shaft.
I’m in Columbia, SC and would MUCH rather see GB @ ATL. Than CAR @ CLE. That game should be blacked out.
God, Chris Rose is a horrible announcer…
If a stadium is within 50 miles of an area, that area should get the game from that team…period
If 2 of these stadiums exist in the same area a local channel should be directed by NFL contract to show all of the other team games…period
Those areas support both stadiums and their infrastructure is used for both games. Why they (mayors,governors, congressmen, owners) don’t start lawsuits is unknown to me.
NFL are you there?
@Angelo
Who are you refering to???
The blackout policy is in place in order to get fans to come out to games. If games were on TV teams wouldnt have as many fans come, youd have very empty stadiums during poor seasons and the teams would lose money.
Washington and baltimore are in seperate media markets so different rules apply under FCC regulations.
Same is true for any other situtaion with neighboring cities with seperate tv stations.
If these say happen to be in two stated then why should that even be forced because it goes to the idea of individuality and states rights.
FYI—nfl isnt here.
