UPDATES:
all NY (exc Buffalo); all New England; Philadelphia and Scranton: WSH-JAX to SF-STL
Atlanta; Nashville; Des Moines IA; Dothan AL: SF-STL to WSH-JAX
South Bend IN; Madison WI: WSH-JAX to DET-MIA

Hey, “Dan” > you could watch the game and root for JACKSONVILLE. > I agree the Redskins and their weasel coach Mike Shanahan (who I’ve never liked) treated Donovan very badly. They should be ashamed of themselves. Since I live in the ATL area I will cheer for JAX.
@Dan
I think there is some interest in Nashville since Jacksonville happens to be in the same division as the Titans and thus people there are wanting them to lose because the titans still have a slim chance at the playioffs but they need Jacksonvile to lose.
@cory
they may very well since the niners-Rams game actually matters to both teams.
Also atlanta switching the game to that because you have longtime redskins fans in their market and you have AFC South fans given its the midway point between Nashville and Jacksonville.
NEXT Sunday I can’t wait to see what *colors* the maps are going to be at 1 PM with so many games going on. It’s gonna look like someone threw up after they ate a bunch o’crayons. I reckon I can guarantee the CAROLINA @ ATLANTA game next week won’t be made the Sunday Night NBC game!
From reading all the comments so far I have gleaned that if SAN FRANCISCO loses at ST. LOUIS — they’re out of it. So they gotta win. Imagine if the ARZ CARDS had won @ CAROLINA last week — they’d still be in the Division chase. And their game against the COWBOYS on Christmas night would have some relevance. But the Cardinals blew it . . .
ALSO — Carolina was truly woeful on offense against the Steelers. If Carolina’s offense were a building it would be *condemned*
Local players or not, South Bend and Madison switching to a meaningless game is wrong.
Could the Fox stations that service those 2 areas have ‘Fan Voting’ like they do at the Fox 17 channel in Des Moines, Iowa, where the fans voted to see WASH @ JAX?
@ Carter Gorman
That would be the ideal way of satisfying viewers.
Re: Week 17. I may sound crazy, but since St. Louis, even with a win, cannot knock Seattle out of the division race, certainly can knock San Fran out. If St. Louis wins, I wouldn’t be surprised that NBC picks that game. Tampa-New Orleans, if it has enough impact could be moved to 4:15 (on FOX), as could Giants/Redskins or Eagles/Cowboys if the NFC East is still up for grabs by then. But if the Rams/Seahawks is picked for NBC, I see Fox moving at least two games from 1 to 4:15, as their only late game would be 49ers-Cardinals (no way will that be the feature game).
@Naqdop (or anyone else that can answer)
Is that the reason why madison and south bend changed to det/mia? Other than Fasano, the mia TE that went to nd, i cant think of a main player for either of those teams that went to wisconsin or nd or is from madison or south bend….anyone know of any player on those teams from either university or city?
@Thomas
South Bend changed because it does cover part of Michigan and it is relativly close to the Lions.
Madison…I dont know. Same reason why Des Moines opted for Washignton @ Jacksonville instead of the St louis game that matters is odd.
I think every game next weekend will sell out. The home teams are New York Jets, New England, Baltimore, Cleveland, Houston, Indianapolis, Denver, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Washington, Green Bay, Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle. For the most part, all of these venues sell out all games. The only team that I see possibly blacking is Detroit but I don’t see it happening as they’ve sold out all but one game this year.
@DJP
Yeah, thats what i figured for south bend since its kinda close to det, but Naqdop suggested that could be the reason and i agreed if that was the reason it was ridiculous, especially since i didnt know any players from either place anyway…madison doesnt make sense, but someone mentioned before that Des Moines switched cause their station had a poll online and they picked wash/jack in the poll….
@Chris
Cleveland and detroi are the question marks…the reason its the week of Christmas and new years so weather and other plans with the the holidays and cost of the holidaysscare many fans away from attending games.
cleveland is playing Pittsburgh so you will have fans roadtripping up from Pittsburgh to see the game.
Detroit is playing Minnesota which could be Favres last game. Fans may come out…but at this point its hard to tell. Fans may wait to see if Favre will play before they purchase tickets.
Boston (WFXT TV 25) and Providence (WNAC TV 64) should be showing Detroit @ Miami. This is because the Patriots play the Dolphins in the final week of season. Putting on SF @ STL in these areas is rather illogical, as no one in SE NE really cares about these teams, even if it’s a meaningful game.
@easyed
No they shouldnt show that game. Miami is out of it so there is no reason to show that game. Why air them now whaen they will see them next week? Its a play out the string game.
San Fran @ st louis is a playoff game for both clubs.
Admin:
Doesn’t Ocala, Florida have its own FOX station?
It does, but it serves the Gainesville market. Ocala is officially part of the Orlando market.

I completely disagree. Out of the Fox 1:00 offerings, DET/MIA is the LAST one I’d show. STL/SF is nearly a playoff game, and WSH/JAX features a potential Patriots playoff opponent. Odds are very good the Pats game vs. Miami in week 17 will mean nothing.
Why is the Pittsburgh area getting the WAS-JAX game when they SHOULD be getting the NYJ-CHI game? I find it very confusing as to why WPGH would air the crap game.
@nick
nyj/chi is on cbs and not on fox…pittsburgh is gettin balt/cle on cbs since the afc north isnt clinched yet and its also a matchup of division rivals…
I was thinking from an advertising standpoint: Putting the Dolphins on in Boston and Providence may bring more eyes to their game than that of two teams that has zero following in SE NE. Admitted the SF @ STL game is having much more significance, but there are more Dolphins/AFC followers in those areas.
Usually the Boston and Providence stations tend to march to their own drummer. What makes more sense to rest of USA, in putting SF @ STL on usually doesn’t necessarily apply to them, especially if there are more Miami followers in those markets. The same could have been said for the small number of Bills followers living there, but these are fewer than those of the Dolphins; and their games are often on at same time as the Jets and/or Patriots.
Mattlion, you made a good point about JAX being a potential Patriot opponent in the playoffs. However, that is three weeks away, and only a possibility. Most television executives tend to think in the now or up to a week ahead at the most. Under this theory, putting DET @ MIA may bring these two stations more revenue short term (today) than the other games.
Ok, so here in the Atlanta area we got the WASH @ JAX game and I can conclude the Redskins came out ready to play some football while the Jags looks lethargic for a while. Disregarding the fact I think Mike Shanahan didn’t handle the Donovan McNabb “benching” situation with much class the ‘Skins looked like the team that came out with Real Energy. Even with their banged-up defense they played hard for all 60 minutes and won the game in the 63rd. The Giants/Packers game was entertaining for a while . . . but then the Pack put their foot on the gas and that was the end of the “G-Men” for this evening’s festivities. Coming up tomorrow night is the Evil Saints vs. the Holy Falcons.
GO FALCONS
@easyed
Your logic may apply to say a midseason game because its natural for the games local networks to carry that doesnt involve home team would be games with divisional foes.
At this point of year where the Lions-Dolphins is meaningless… they wouldnt air it because many viewers dont care to watch a meaningless game.
these will be the national games:
1pm ET
CBS Pittsburgh @ cleveland
FOX Tampa bay @ New Orleans
4:15pm
CBS Titans @ colts
FOX Bears @ Packers
Only the immediate/traditional markets will get the other games.
