I still don’t understand why PHI-NYR is getting almost the entire Pacific Time Zone along with Alaska and Hawai’i. I’m surprised those areas aren’t getting DET-MIN.
Definitely odd to see Ken Daniels not calling the wings game going on at the same time!
The Washington Capitals game should be carried in Roanoke, VA, West Virginia, the Tri-Cities, TN/VA, and the part of North Carolina east of the Appalachian Mountains — a lot of Washington sports fans in all of those areas, especially in ALL of Virginia. But most of the South will be watching the Daytona 500 on FOX!
@ Frank
The same goes for Pat Foley not calling the Blackhawks game.
@ Marcus
Yeah, it is ridiculous that the west coast is getting an eastern game. The Wild are very close to the California teams in the standings and Detroit is a popular team in the west. The rest of Ohio should be getting the Wings-Wild too for the same reasons.
@ Chris
The Capitals game should be shown to a bigger area but it is against the Sabres which is not a sexy team.
The majority of Ohio gets the Philly-Rangers game despite the fact that Columbus is in the Western Conference and the standings are packed tight. Detroit is also just a few hours away and the Buckeye State has many Red Wing rooters. I have no problem with the announcing assignments. It helps cut down on the idea that they are biased toward their usual team.
Detroit isn’t as popular in the west as Detroit fans might think. PHI-NYR is a bigger matchup for the NBC suits (two big market, and currently playoff positioned, teams). MIN is about as sexy a matchup as BUF, although I’d give the nod to BUF (solely because of Miller).
None of these games will be on NHL Center Ice — I cannot see the one I want to see — only time this year. Hockey Day sucks!
@Tom
I am in San Jose, and I would much rather see the Wings. NY/PHI being big markets doesn’t have any bearing outside of those markets. We want to see western Conference teams out here.
You should get to key in the game you want to watch. This is the techno age. Catch up NBC. Fans are scattered all over the country. No possible broadcast map could make us all happy.
[...] games will be streamed on NBCSports.com: Bummer news: Per Puck the Media’s Steve Lepore and The 506, NBC’s swiping of the Sunday’s Red Wings-Minnesota Wild game doesn’t just mean a [...]
@naqdop & Frank, same goes for Jim Jackson, who is the Flyers PxP man.
This kind of sucks. I’m a DC transplant in Portland, OR, and I’d rather watch the Caps game vs Buffalo than the Flyers vs Rangers.

Hockey Day SUCKS!! I paid for NHL Center Ice and I lose out on all but two of these games…GARBAGE. Who comes up with these stupid ideas
Hockey day and NBC suck. My Redwings game won’t be shown in the state of Washington where I live. Instead we get to see some stupid east coast game. Why on earth wasn’t NHL Center Ice allowed to pick up all games? I wish NBC would just get out of hockey, leave it to grownups. Should never stick 3 games together and only allow one area the choice of one of them.
This ridiculous. I pay a fortune for the hockey package and then NBC FAILS to show the Red Wings game.
Why would the west coast want to watch two east coast, eastern confrence teams play hockey? Both Detroit and Minnisota are in the western confrence, in case you didn’t know. This normally wouldn’t be a problem… but because nbc owns the rights to three games all at the same time they are blacked out on the hockey package that I pay a lot of money for.
Really surprised at how lame Ken Daniels is at calling a game. No energy whatsoever. Is he always this weak when calling Wings games?
Can someone get through to the NBC play by p;ay broadcaster for the Detroit Minnesota game on Sunday Feb 20 thqt the Mule’s name is NOT Fraaanzen but Fr ah nzen? Like in, aaaah is this beer cold!!!
He ALWAYS makes this mistake.
Thanks!
Denny Custer
Is it Dishnetwork or a conspiracy by NBC to ruin Sunday games for me..fourth week in a row with terrible wavy sound during the broadcast games, ..of course NO problems during the commercials:( Really taking the happy edge off my hockeyday.
I think Ken Daniels did a great job, I don’t thinks he’s weak, he knows a lot more about the game than most play by play announcers, and I thought he used a lot energy while calling the game. I hope NBC continues to use him.
BTW, for future reference, make note that the area around the SE portion of New Jersey is served by WMGM in Atlantic City. I noticed that when I clicked on that area, the NBC affiliate that is listed there is WCAU in Philadelphia. Not that it really matters much though because most people who have cable or satellite in the Atlantic City-Cape May area are able to get NBC out of both Philly and AC.
