NFL market maps are determnined by a few factors. Number one is ratings. The question for each market is which non- home team game will attract the most viewers. Geographics are a factor as well.
An question regrading whther the Bills game instead of the Patriots/Bengals game should be shown in the NY market. We have a ratings vs geography issue. Buffalo is not nearly as popular to region audience than the Bills. NYV is the the #1 tv market. It makes sense to show a more popular game in a large market as opposed to a regional team from a small market.
The NFL takes other factors into play such as popularity of certain teams. For example even during down years, the Dallas Cowboys get far more national games than most other teams.
In areas like Ohio, the Browns popularity is much more prevalent in northern OH and adjacent areas of WV and IN…While the Bengals are more well liked in central in southern OH. That is most likely why those in the Columbus market see the Bengals far more than the Browns.
What’s the latest in J’ville as far as the game being blacked out? One would figure it would.
It’s been sold out for weeks. Something about a certain Broncos QB.
Got it.
Thanks admin
Wish I could see Tampa Bay vs. Cleveland for the opener, the southern part of South Carolina will have to watch the panthers! Boo!
Really? Who cares AT ALL about the NYG??? Really??? 75% of the country needs NYG vs CAR. What a joke.
reside in MKE, why do I have to suffer through the BEars and Lions game??? I want to watch Pro-football not these jokers. I even understand that it’s NFC North game… but I still don’t have interest. Pitt v ATL will be the game of the week. Switch to a more competitive game… this should be done EVERY week.
JAX sold out there games because their first four games because of a front loaded home schedule…
Host denver (tim Tebow)..start of hoping for a miracle..
nest home game against Philadelphia (many philly transplants/retirees)
Then the next 3 home games are against division teams…indy, tenn, and Houston. Houston has yet to sell out.
After that they have cleveland, oakland, and washington…so JAX will not seel out those games. They may with Washington strictly because Washington is competative (miracles happen) and people from DC/VA travel down there over christmas/new years week.

Wheeling WV has been changed over to CLE-TB.
This isn’t a switch by the network – I just had the map colored wrong and just noticed it now.
why does the richmond, va area have a different game than the rest of the east coast? Indy-Houston not bad but both NE and Cinci are closer and prob a better matchup… just wondering why Richmond isnt with the rest of the east coast??
I know the Tampa Bay game is blacked out but shouldn’t at least 1 market in Florida be carrying the game? Shouldn’t at least the Orlando market be carrying the Tampa Bay game?? There have to be more Buccaneer than Dolphin fans in Orlando.
Orlando is affected by Bucs blackouts as well.
But, that said, the CBS affiliate in Orlando has said they’ll be carrying the Dolphins whenever they can, to make up for all the times they have to air the Jaguars instead. The Bucs wouldn’t be on there even if they did sell out.
just out of curiosity, why does one tiny section of SoCal get the DEN/JAX game?
according to zap2it.com WCBI Columbus,MS will air Raiders at Titans
Adam C: Changed.
Also came across a switch in Spokane, Washington over to the Broncos game.
jax and den should be playing in pensacola. ne vs cincy, gay.
Watching the Falcons @ Steelers game in Cincy, the screen blacks out briefly, then the picture will come back. Anyone else watching this game having the same kind of trouble?
“While the Bengals are more well liked in central in southern OH. That is most likely why those in the Columbus market see the Bengals far more than the Browns.”
Not true. Bengals and Browns fans are pretty split in Columbus, and the local CBS treats it as such. The Browns were almost always shown when they came back in ‘99 until the Bengals got good with Palmer and #85. The teams play in Week 4. Let’s say the Browns beat the Bengals to go to 2-2 and the Bengals slip to 1-3, it might change back.
Quick question, I live in Knoxville, TN and I was wondering if week 2 will i be able to see the Houston Texans Vs Washington Redskins game?
Ryan
According to Titantv.com, Knoxville CBS affiliate is showing Patriots @ Jets in the 4:15 slot. The Texans @ Redskins game is also a 4:15 start. If it’s the HOU/WAS game you want, go to a sports bar or any friend’s house with DirectTV NFL Sunday Ticket.
